Last year we got some crushing news (or not?) when we explored the possibility of getting our hands on a functioning hoverboard by 2015 as promised in Back to the Future II. Earlier this month we learned you could soon get the opportunity to at least pick up the proper shoes even if the Hoverboard is still on the drawing board.
On Sept 6, Nike dropped this vague teaser showing a giant closet full of the futuristic Air Mag sneakers as featured in the film.
Buzz starting picking up and it was soon revealed that Nike planned on auctioning off the shoe in limited quanities on eBay. The proceeds will go to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
With the first pair going for an insane $37,000—the cloeest you might be able to get to these kicks is this video below featuring SNL's Bill Hader and of course Christopher Llyod (as Dr. Emmett Brown). Unfortunately, these bad boys aren't self lacing... yet.
It seems like at least once a month, someone comes out of the woodwork via youtube and makes a big splash with an epic video part. At the end of August, 10 year old Rene Serrano had some footage drop that saw 600,000 views in only two days and has now clocked in well over a million. Not even old enough to find a hat that's not too big, Rene has already amassed a laundry list of sponsors (and did he mention a BBQ restaurant at the end of that list?) Have a watch to find out why kids like this instill fear in the hearts of pro skaters.
After mastering bowling, Lil' Wayne (the rapper all the kids at the skatepark with earbuds in listen to) has recently been on a tear trying to learn the ropes of our fine four wheeled activity. And in true high roller style, when Lil' Wayne wants to learn how to shred, he rents out indoor skateparks across the country for solo sessions and takes his lumps... while wearing what he imagines skaters wear.
It started earlier this month with a visit to the legendary SPoT when footage of him dropping in (on a 5Boro deck, no less) surfaced after an all night session. And just last weekend, Young Money himself copped a Pop Shuv to Fakie in Michigan at Transitions Skatepark (video below). A day after that session, while in St. Louis, Lil' Wayne's twitter read: "The Lou was good but I busted my head at the sk8park! 9stitches! Gnarly gash over my left eye! Luv the people,"
Think a little scratch will stop Weezy? Hell nah, Lil' Wayne was back at it yesterday, shredding with Sean Malto in Kansas City no less.
ESPN recently sat down with Nyjah Houston for a pre X-Games interview. The clip has since racked up almost 100,000 views—not because of Nyjah's responses in the interview, it's what's going on in the background that drew some attention instead...
